Duct Cleaning: What It Actually Does (and What It Doesn't)

February 24, 2026 · 5 min read

Duct cleaning is one of the most oversold services in our industry, which is a shame, because done properly it genuinely helps certain homes.

It's worth doing after remodeling or drywall work, when there's visible dust discharge from vents, after rodent or moisture intrusion, or when a system has never been cleaned in a couple of decades. In those cases you'll often see a measurable airflow improvement and noticeably less settled dust.

It is not a treatment for allergies on its own, and no honest contractor will promise that. Filtration, humidity control, and sealing the duct system usually matter more for air quality than the cleaning itself.

A proper job uses negative-air equipment, agitation of each branch, cleaning of the blower and coil area, and before-and-after photos of every register. If a quote sounds too cheap to include all of that, it doesn't.
