Why One Room in Your House Never Gets Cool

When a single room stays warm while the rest of the house is comfortable, the air conditioner usually isn't the problem. Air distribution is.
Check the return path first. Rooms with a supply vent but no return, and a door that stays closed, pressurize and stop accepting air. A door undercut or a transfer grille often solves it outright.
Then look at duct runs. The longest, most twisted branch in the system delivers the least air, and flexible duct that sags or kinks in an attic can lose most of its capacity. Balancing dampers exist for exactly this, but they need to be measured and set, not guessed.
Finally, consider the room itself. West-facing glass, a poorly insulated attic above, or a converted garage can simply have more load than the branch serving it was ever sized for. In those cases a ductless mini-split for that one room is often cheaper and more effective than reworking the whole system.
